The WVU Campus Read has partnered with the Department of Biology to bring an exhibit called Outbreak! Epidemics in a Connected World to campus from the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History.

The 2018-2019 Campus Read, Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, follows a traveling theatre troupe as they navigate a post-pandemic world, exploring what life would be like if the world’s population—and with it, power, technology, and communication--was mostly wiped out from a world-wide pandemic flu.

Outbreak! focuses on the science behind pandemics and epidemics as they affect us today, as well as how they have impacted the world historically. In 17 printed photo and text panels, the exhibit explores topics ranging from detecting and preventing the spread of infectious disease to case studies.

The exhibit will remain at WVU until the end of the fall 2018 semester, housed on the ground floor of the Life Sciences Building downtown. It will be open to the public Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Instructors interested in bringing classes through the exhibit, or any group of ten or more wishing to visit, must make an appointment by calling 304.293.9919.

Sponsored by the Humanities Center, the annual Campus Read program is designed to engage the campus and community in a yearlong discussion. For a full list of events related to the campus read, please visit campusread.wvu.edu.
