A new Hazing Prevention Task Force, spearheaded by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, with members representing several different units on campus, has planned a full slate of activities to raise awareness around the issue of hazing and the impact it has on campus, Jan. 29-Feb. 2.

“Hazing is a criminal act in the State of West Virginia and counterintuitive to the mission of West Virginia University,” said Matthew Richardson, director of the WVU Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. “It is our hope that by providing continuous education through active and passive programs, we’ll be better equipped as a University community to eliminate hazing in every setting possible.”

The charge to the task force includes strategizing the intentional eradication of hazing at West Virginia University, increase an active awareness and understating of hazing in the University community through awareness programs, policy creation, and a standardized reporting structure.

The Hazing Prevention Task Force exists as a collaborative body of faculty, staff and students from Student Engagement & Leadership; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Student Conduct, WVU Athletics; LGBTQ Center; Women’s Resource Center; WellWVU; College of Business and Economics; the WVU Marching Band, and the WVU Police Department.
