West Virginia University’s Dean of Libraries, Jon Cawthorne, has been appointed the dean of libraries and head of the library school at Wayne State University in Detroit effective July 31. The full release in which WSU announced the news Tuesday (June 6) can be found at http://go.wvu.edu/2rzv4M9.
“Jon is a visionary, forward-thinking leader who has helped WVU faculty, staff and students expand our understanding of what our libraries can mean at an institution of our caliber,” said Vice Provost John Campbell. “We’re excited that he will have the opportunity to both influence library education and the future of research libraries at Wayne State.”
Since his appointment as dean of WVU Libraries in early 2014, Cawthorne has led greater electronic database access to WVU regional campuses, overseen the installation of several photographic exhibits open to the public in the Downtown Library as well as the establishment of the Digital Publishing Institute, an international institute for digitally oriented research that focuses on publishing open-access scholarship.
Campbell said that the university will name an interim dean in the next few weeks.
