Finding positive responses during divisive times

Talking about the news and politics with someone whose views are the opposite of your own can be anywhere from difficult to dangerous. But there are “teachable moments,” as some West Virginia University School of Social Work have discovered through teach-ins that included presentations, films and role-playing activities.

WVU engineering alumnus travels world during remote year

West Virginia University alumnus Tyler Hartman was selected for a year-long journey across the world through Remote Year, a program designed for digital nomads to travel the world while maintaining their jobs by working remotely. After months of traveling between Switzerland, Morocco and India, Hartman is now exploring South America in Columbia, Peru, Argentina and Chile. Hartman credits his experience at WVU, which gave him confidence, adaptivity and agility in his work.

WVU's ribbon-cutting ceremony to open Falling Run Greenspace moved to rain date, Sunday, April 30

The Falling Run Greenspace is an accessible, vibrant urban oasis with the potential to become a central park for the heart of Morgantown, forging a connection between West Virginia University’s Organic Farm and the Main Downtown Campus. Working in small groups, more than 1,000 student and faculty volunteers and crew leaders helped to build the 16 hiking trails over the past nine months.

High school students tackle health research in their communities

A group of motivated high school students across West Virginia in the Health Sciences and Technology Academy program partnered with WVU medical students to find out why so few high school students get flu shots each year. They are among hundreds of high school student research groups who will present their findings at West Virginia State University in Institute April 29 and at Fairmont State University May 6. Science presentations and hand-on activities will be ongoing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at both locations.
