WVU Davis College to host entomology conference, free community event

WHAT: The West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design will host “Bringing Focus to the Unseen,” the 2024 Entomological Society of America Eastern Branch Conference.  

WHO: University faculty and students, entomologists and subject matter experts, conference exhibitors, families, children 

WHEN: March 9-12 

WHERE: WVU Evansdale Campus, 1201 Evansdale Drive, Morgantown

NOTES: In conjunction with the conference, the WVU Davis College will host a free community outreach event, “It’s a Bug’s World,” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday (March 10) at the Agricultural Sciences Building, South Agricultural Sciences Building, Evansdale Greenhouse and surrounding campus.

There will be 20 booths throughout Evansdale Campus with interactive activities and exhibits that include various live insects, bug-eating plants, pollinators, insect jewelry, insect origami and more.

          ·       “The WVU Insect Zoo: Petting Live Insects and Arthropods” tours scheduled every 30 minutes from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Agricultural Sciences Building, G110 and G112

          ·       Noon to 1 p.m. “Sawbones” Podcast Recording: Most Wanted Bugs, 1021 South Agricultural Sciences Building

          ·       12:30-1:30 p.m. Carnivorous plants by Mid-Atlantic Carnivorous Plant Society, Agricultural Sciences Building, second floor

          ·       1:30-2:30 p.m. Insect dissection and feeding insects, Agricultural Sciences Building, second floor

          ·       All day: Build-a-Bug: Make and take your own insect or arthropod using craft items, Agricultural Sciences Building, second floor

          ·       6-10 p.m. Entomology games, Agricultural Sciences Building, G06
