WHAT: The West Virginia University Extension Small Farm Center will host a four-day conference offering an affordable opportunity for West Virginia farmers to learn how to adapt their enterprises to meet the rising demand for local foods while increasing profitability.
WHO: Nearly 400 West Virginia farmers and agribusiness operators, WVU Extension faculty, staff and other industry experts, Christopher Derico, keynote speaker, president, School Nutrition Association and child nutrition director, Barbour County Schools, and various conference exhibitors
WHEN: Feb. 21-24
WHERE: Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center, 200 Civic Center Drive, Charleston
NOTES: In conjunction with the conference, WVU Extension will host the inaugural Health and Farm Vitality Forum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 21). This forum event is free and open to any individual or organization with a stake in assuring healthy farm families and prosperous farms in West Virginia.
The conference also includes the popular Winter Blues Farmers Market, a collaboration with the West Virginia Department of Agriculture, from 1-6 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 24). The Winter Blues Farmers Market is open to the public. This year’s market features 118 vendors, is an hour longer and includes a new layout to improve shoppers’ experience.
