West Virginia University alumni and friends will have an opportunity to fuel advancement for future generations on March 25 during the ninth WVU Day of Giving, an annual 24-hour fundraising effort organized by the WVU Foundation.
“We’re seeking initial investors now and will be encouraging anyone who wants to be part of the future of West Virginia University to support our efforts during the Day of Giving on March 25,” President Michael T. Benson said. He talked about Day of Giving during Friday’s (Feb. 20) Board of Governors meeting at the Erickson Alumni Center.
West Virginia University supporters gave $260.7 million over the past year, making it the third highest year of giving in the University’s history. Their gifts will benefit education, health care and prosperity to make a positive impact across the Mountain State and beyond for years to come.
According to West Virginia University alumni leader David K. Hendrickson, there’s only one “team” at WVU that consistently remains undefeated — the Mountaineer Marching Band. Hendrickson’s passion for the band motivated him to make a $50,000 gift to support the Pride Practice Field and Facility in conjunction with this year’s WVU Day of Giving, and he challenged other alumni to match his gift, raising over $150,000 in total to support the project.
Supporters of West Virginia University donated a record $46.2 million Wednesday (March 26) during the University’s eighth Day of Giving. More than 10,300 gifts were made during the 24-hour online fundraising event held across the University system, also a record. The $46.2 million figure tops 2024’s WVU Day of Giving record of $30.4 million raised from over 8,500 gifts.

The West Virginia University Foundation is celebrating 70 years of private philanthropy to benefit the University and its land-grant mission including a record-breaking 2024 fiscal year that saw more than $282 million in gifts and pledges, a more than $12 million increase over the previous record set in 2021.
West Virginia University alumni and friends contributed a record $282.6 million during fiscal year 2024 to support high-quality education, meaningful research, world-class patient care and outreach programs that benefit the Mountain State and beyond.
