New federal ‘Opportunity Zones’ include WVU locations

Three Morgantown census tracts that include portions of West Virginia University will now be eligible for a new federal tax incentive program designed to encourage private investors to make capital investments. The three are among 55 “opportunity zones” announced by Gov. Jim Justice and U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito last month.

WVU professors bring the scientific community closer to understanding binary star mergers

Maura McLaughlin and Duncan Lorimer, professors of physics and astronomy at West Virginia University, have discovered a new pair of pulsars and have followed up on characteristics of another new duo. Their research will bring insights into the understanding of the how many of these systems exist and the rate in which they merge in our galaxy.

WVU Board continues work on implementing faculty, academic rules

The West Virginia University Board of Governors continued its work Friday (May 18) on the process of enacting new policies and procedures in the wake of the state Legislature’s adoption of laws permitting more independence from the state Higher Education Policy Commission. In a special meeting, the Board approved final academic rules and one faculty rule.

Karen and Mike Carver, West Virginia University sociology and anthropology alumni and owners of Ninja Analytics, gave $25,000 to the Department of Sociology and Anthropology to support student research.
