New Mountaineer to begin term after April 6 ‘Passing of the Rifle” ceremony

Trevor Kiess will officially begin his reign as the 2018-19 West Virginia University Mountaineer Mascot on Friday (April 6), when current Mountaineer Troy Clemons passes the rifle on to him in a formal ceremony. The ceremony, open to the public, will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the Barnette Room of the Erickson Alumni Center.

Carter Repeats as NABC Defensive Player of the Year

The stars of the season, including Jevon Carter, were honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches at its annual NABC Guardians of the Game awards show Sunday evening at the Lila Cockrell Theater in San Antonio.

Carter named to John Wooden All-American Team

Jevon Carter has been named to the 2018 John R. Wooden Award Presented By Wendy's All American Team. The Wooden Award All American Team is made up of ten student athletes who were the top vote-getters in the quest to earn college basketball's most prestigious honor.

Mountaineers, Hokies set for rematch

After an 11-year hiatus in the Black Diamond Rivalry ended in November, the women's basketball team is set to face rival Virginia Tech for the second time this season today (March 28) when the two meet in the 2018 Postseason WNIT Semifinals. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.

WVU women down JMU; advance to WNIT Quarters

The women's basketball team took down the Dukes, 67-55, in the third round of the Postseason WNIT on Friday night at the WVU Coliseum. With the win, the Mountaineers are set to host St. John's on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum in the Postseason WNIT Quarterfinals.

Carter named Third Team NABC All-American

The National Association of Basketball Coaches has announced the 2018 NABC Coaches' Division I All-America teams. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these 15 student-athletes (including WVU’s Jevon Carter) represent the finest basketball players across America.
