‘Most Loyals’ chosen for Mountaineer Week at WVU

The 2017 honorees are Dr. Ronald Wilkinson, Most Loyal West Virginian; Jon Hammock, Most Loyal Alumni Mountaineer; Mannon Gallegly, Most Loyal Faculty/Professional Staff Mountaineer; and Barbara Bodkins, Most Loyal Classified Staff Mountaineer. The group will be honored during halftime ceremonies of Saturday’s (Oct. 28) WVU-Oklahoma State football game.

Tradition runs deep: Gaziano family creates WVU English professorship

The Mountaineer tradition runs deep for the Gaziano family of Charleston, West Virginia. Dominic Gaziano, Rosalie Gaziano and their five sons all graduated from West Virginia University’s Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, totaling 28 years of enrollment.

WVU to hold inaugural Day of Giving Nov. 8

One day. The words suggest a moment and a future. Both are being emphasized on Nov. 8 as West Virginia University is reaching out to students, alumni and friends, encouraging them to make a gift – especially ones that go to the general, unrestricted needs of the University and its schools and colleges. The WVU Foundation is organizing the University’s inaugural Day of Giving, 24-hour online fundraising effort, as a simple way for University supporters to contribute to the Foundation’s “State of Minds” Campaign.

WVU Nursing Dean Tara Hulsey to also coordinate health promotion and wellness programs

Recognizing the importance of overall health and wellness to academic, professional and personal success, West Virginia University is creating a system-wide initiative to coordinate and improve efforts in those areas. Supported by a substantial gift from Natalie and Wes Bush, the Bush Fund for Health Promotion and Wellness will be directed by Dean of Nursing Tara Hulsey, who will also continue in her current role while adding responsibilities as vice president of health sciences for health promotion and wellness.

Wikimedia Foundation awards grant to WVU Libraries

The Wikimedia Foundation has award West Virginia University Libraries a $52,000 grant to enable Kelly Doyle, the Libraries’ Wikipedian in Residence for Gender Equity, to continue her efforts at WVU and expand the thriving program to three other universities.

New endowment to help expand academic scholarship opportunities at WVU

A gift of $25,000 from Melinda and John Hale to West Virginia University’s College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, will provide financial aid to CPASS students, with a preference for students from Mineral County and transfer students from Potomac State College.

WVU alum makes gift to support future programming at the WVU Alumni Association

The West Virginia University Alumni Association has received a generous gift from a WVU alum who is paving the way for future students to stay connected with their alma mater. Casey Rentch and his wife, Jaime, recognize the important role the Alumni Association has played in their lives following his graduation at the University.
