Yohanna Berhanu is a native of Morgantown and soon-to-be PharmD graduate of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. After graduation, Berhanu will pursue a postdoctoral pharmaceutical industry fellowship and said she will miss the amazing students, faculty and staff that she’s come to know during her time at WVU.
The search for the next West Virginia University president moved forward Monday (May 6) as the WVU Board of Governors unanimously approved BOG Governance Rule 1.3 — Presidential Selection, Contracts and Evaluation, following a 30-day public comment period. The Rule, which will go into effect 15 business days from now, outlines the guiding principles for the selection, employment and evaluation of the University’s president.
Claire Ullom always liked math and people, so she embarked on a career path that would utilize both — accounting. She set her sights on PwC, one of the “Big Four” accounting firms where jobs are notoriously competitive. The West Virginia University John Chambers College of Business and Economics prepared her so well with the Master of Accountancy program that she has been able to land a full-time position with the firm.
Sarver, Pennsylvania native David Malecki, who will graduate with his master’s degree in integrated marketing communications during Commencement 2024, said he recommends students new to West Virginia University take advantage of every opportunity as soon as they arrive on campus. “The first few weeks are a crucial time to define your college career,” he said.
Maura McLaughlin, West Virginia University Eberly Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy, has been selected as a new member of the National Academy of Sciences, one of the highest honors in the scientific world. “Professor McLaughlin’s election signifies the continued growth of WVU as one of America’s great research universities,” WVU Vice President for Research Fred King said.

Growing up in a military family, she saw firsthand the damage that can be done to a person's hearing and the effects hearing loss has on communication.
Carmen Camino Falcon, originally from Peruto del Rosario, Spain, has spent the last five years at West Virginia University Institute of Technology. She completed her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering last May and is graduating again this spring with a degree in mathematics. After graduation, she will work for Worley, a chemical and structural engineering company in Charleston.
Mackenzie Wenzel from North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, will cross the Commencement stage after completing her bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene. She chose West Virginia University School of Dentistry because she said it felt like a home away from home since the first time she visited campus.
