West Virginia University President Gordon Gee sent a letter to the Mountaineer community Sunday, March 1.

With help from alumni and friends, the next generation of West Virginia dentists and dental hygienists will be trained in radically modernized facilities that reflect the excellent education and quality patient care provided by the West Virginia University School of Dentistry.

Dentistry students at West Virginia University who demonstrate a commitment to compassionate care will benefit from the generosity of an alumnus who found a supportive family atmosphere at the School of Dentistry and his wife who leads a WVU health care studies program.

Ken and Jennifer Mason of Alma, West Virginia, have provided a gift that will make a significant and positive change to the inside look of the arena and modernize its seats for fans to enjoy in the years to come.

West Virginia University Director of Athletics and Associate Vice President Shane Lyons announced today a $10 million gift from the Hazel Ruby McQuain Charitable Trust to build an Athletics Performance Center at the WVU Coliseum Sports Complex.

Graduates were urged to tap into their inner wisdom and make decisions that align with their passions at West Virginia University’s commencement ceremonies Saturday (Dec. 21).

Nearly 600 donors contributed $92,000 to the West Virginia University Foundation’s Pride Travel Fund this fall to support the Mountaineer Marching Band.

WVU Men’s Basketball Coach Bob Huggins launched the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Fund after his mother lost her battle with colon cancer in 2003. To date, the fund has raised about $5 million to support clinical research trials for cancer patients in West Virginia. But, to the patients and physicians impacted by those funds, the value is priceless.

Students will be better equipped to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing media landscape thanks to a gift from an award winning journalist and West Virginia University alumnus. Bob and Luanne Kittle have been generous contributors to the Reed College of Media for more than 30 years. But their most recent pledge, the largest single donation in College of Media history, will allow them to make an impact on education and journalism in the state earlier than they anticipated.

A loyal alumnus and his wife have continued their history of giving to West Virginia University with a $6 million gift that will expand opportunities for students, increase support for faculty, research and other programs in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources.
