WVU earns sixth Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award

Establishing a Faculty Justice Network, creating a comprehensive Inclusive Campus website and increasing fundraising aimed at soliciting resources for traditionally underrepresented students are among the new projects at West Virginia University that earned the 2021 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award for the sixth consecutive year.

Food for the soul: WVU Campus Food Garden a place to learn and grow

Two West Virginia University biologists have spent their summer tending a garden that grew into more than a source for fresh vegetables —it was a backyard sanctuary for learning where students and faculty discovered how to plant seeds, prepare soils, monitor water and nutrient needs, manage pests and nurture the vegetation.

WVU expands indoor mask requirement to all indoor campus spaces

West Virginia University is updating its mask guidelines. Beginning Monday, Sept. 13, all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear a mask indoors in all WVU System buildings and facilities through Oct. 6, when public health conditions will be reevaluated.

As the world watched the twin towers fall on Sept. 11, 2001, Americans everywhere questioned what would come next. Jonathan McGee, now a senior studying political science, however, knew what was ahead for him. At the time, he was delayed enlistment for the U.S. Air Force and waiting for an open spot in the firefighting school. Amanda McCarty, currently a senior chemistry major, was in ninth grade when the attacks on Sept. 11 took place. It was then that she decided she wanted to do her part to defend her country. When she turned 18, she enlisted.
