Flood control: WVU experts seek community-driven answers to living with flooding

Nicolas Zegre and Jamie Shinn, experts in hydrology and adaptation to climate change, respectively, used flooding in the Greenbrier County communities of Rainelle and White Sulphur Springs in 2016 to focus not only on what the floods did and the damage they caused, but how residents reacted and adjusted how and where they live in relationship to the water.

WVU scientist earns $2.5 million to help pump the brakes on diesel emissions

Hailin Li, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, will spearhead the development of a software platform that conducts a fast-integrated simulation of heavy-duty diesel engines, equipped with an advanced after-treatment system. The goal is to speed up new engine technology development to improve engine efficiency and reduce exhaust emissions.

West Virginia University student Teagan Kuzniar was first drawn to environmental issues after a guest lecture in her high school science class from a member of the Friends of Deckers Creek, a non-profit organization that works to clean-up and protect the Deckers Creek Watershed from environmental degradation.
