WVU’s GangaRao testifies before House Committee on the use of composites in infrastructure

In testimony delivered today (April 18) to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space and Technology, Hota GangaRao, the Maurice and Jo Ann Wadsworth Distinguished Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at West Virginia University, discussed the importance of investing in advanced materials to continue to lead the world in composite research, development and implementation.

WVU Extension Service specialist fuels monarch conservation efforts

The future of West Virginia’s state butterfly, the monarch, is in danger. Populations have declined so much that it is at risk of being placed on the endangered species list — a move that could have regulatory and economic impacts for the state. According to West Virginia University Extension Service Wildlife Specialist Sheldon Owen, most experts estimate that the Eastern population of monarchs has declined by 90 percent over the last 20 years

Two WVU students awarded Critical Language Scholarships

This summer, two West Virginia University students will study abroad as recipients of the highly competitive U.S. Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship. With the selection of Brandon Brown of South Charleston and Adam Craig of Wheeling, WVU will now have 30 students who have received this award since 2008.

Nominations open for WVU business school’s Roll of Distinguished Alumni

Nominations are now open for the 2018 class of the College of Business and Economics Roll of Distinguished Alumni at West Virginia University. Individuals interested in submitting a nomination may do so through June 1. This year’s inductees will be honored at an Oct. 5 luncheon during WVU Homecoming Weekend at the Erickson Alumni Center on the Evansdale Campus.

WVU forms committee to pursue tree campus designation

Earth day is right around the corner, and the tree is probably the most iconic symbol of the holiday supporting environmental protection. A group of West Virginia University faculty, staff and students want to turn the tree from a symbol into an ecological representation of Mountaineer pride by forming a committee to pursue the Tree Campus USA designation.

WVU to embrace entrepreneurship and innovation at inaugural Demo Day

Nearly 70 West Virginia University students and faculty members from across campus will showcase their innovative ideas, cutting-edge inventions, working prototypes and unique business ventures at the inaugural WVU IDEA Hub Demo Day Thursday, April 19. The teams will compete for prizes determined by those who attend the all-day, university-wide event.
