Lyons named to prestigious NCAA committee

Director of Athletics and Associate Vice President Shane Lyons has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee in a term that will expire in June 2022. Recently, Lyons was also named chair of that prestigious committee for the length of his term.

Mountaineer Legends Society to expand

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the initial members of the Mountaineer Legends Society for Olympic Sports. The 49 members will make the initial entrance into the Mountaineer Legends Society and will join the 22 men's and women's basketball members, who were first introduced in September 2017 and are on display at the WVU Coliseum Gold Gate, and the 41 football legends, who were first introduced in July 2016 and are on display at Milan Puskar Stadium.

WVU receives $500,000 grant from BB&T Charitable Fund

A $500,000 grant from the BB&T Charitable Fund will be used in the Center for Financial Literacy and Education at West Virginia University’s College of Business and Economics and for the new business school complex to be built on Morgantown’s waterfront.

Appalachian literature expert to join WVU as writer-in-residence

Ann Pancake will teach courses in Appalachian literature, environmental criticism and other subjects related to her writing and research. She will also contribute to the WVU Humanities Center Community Affiliates program but will devote the bulk of her time to writing about her native state.

WVU researcher investigates risk for opioid overdose in rural West Virginia

Based at West Virginia University’s Eastern Campus in Martinsburg, Joy Buck, a WVU School of Nursing professor, and her collaborators will gather real-time data about overdose trends and assess the cultural barriers to—and facilitators of—overdose prevention. The findings gleaned from her pilot project may prove useful in other rural areas across the nation.

Lyons reveals 2018-19 rifle schedule

The Mountaineers' slate culminates with the 2019 NCAA National Championships, set for March 8-9 at the WVU Coliseum. This year's championship marks the first NCAA final in Morgantown.
