All summer, various youth camps and summer programs at West Virginia University—both on and off campus—will help young people develop new skills while making new friends.

After an extensive, nationwide search, WVU Tech has announced the installment of Dr. Joan Neff as the new provost for the Beckley campus.

Larry A. Rhodes, M.D., a pediatric cardiologist and former chair of the Department of Pediatrics in the West Virginia University School of Medicine, has been named assistant dean for health sciences programs at the University’s Beckley Campus.

Renowned West Virginia novelist Ann Pancake leads the list of honorary degree recipients when West Virginia University sends more than 4,450 graduates into the world the weekend of May 11-13 as commencement ceremonies take place in three venues for 13 colleges and schools. Of those graduates, 3,009 have earned their undergraduate degrees or certificates, 1,110 their master’s degrees and 360 have earned their doctorates.

In a move to help improve people’s lives through innovation in fundamental neuroscience research and education, West Virginia University will bring together some 50 of its laboratories to form a new Department of Neuroscience within the School of Medicine.

When Harold M. Forbes retired from West Virginia University as curator of Rare Books in 2013, bookseller Jim Presgraves wanted to pay a proper tribute to his colleague’s long career. Rather than sending a card, Presgraves, approaching retirement himself, donated a large portion of his inventory at Bookworm and Silverfish Books in Rural Retreat, Va., to WVU Libraries in honor of the former Rare Books Curator. Library staff calculate the gift at more than 10,000 books, pamphlets, archives, maps and other materials with a value more than $500,000.

In a country where higher education is being devalued, even as the cost of an education skyrockets, West Virginia University remains committed to its purpose of transforming lives in the state and the world, President Gordon Gee said today (Feb. 27).

By the fall semester of 2019, West Virginia University expects to have almost 1,100 students residing in Living-Learning Communities, a re-envisioned approach to bridging the gap between academic and non-academic life on campus to help build retention.

Four new West Virginia University faculty members will participate in the Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship Academy Faculty Fellows program, part of a comprehensive university-wide initiative in entrepreneurship and innovation.

With five years remaining on its current master facilities plan, West Virginia University has 16 projects that are active, or under consideration, across the system, ranging from a residence hall at WVU Tech in Beckley to better facilities at Jackson’s Mill to remodeling of space in Morgantown, Vice President for Strategic Initiatives Rob Alsop said today (Jan. 24).
