West Virginia University and the Brandr Group launch group licensing for student-athletes

West Virginia University and The Brandr Group (TBG) have established a group licensing agreement for the university's student-athletes covering all the Mountaineers' 18 varsity sports. This partnership creates new opportunities for West Virginia's student-athletes to profit off their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) using the school's official trademarks and logos.

Mountaineer football legend Sam Huff passes away at age 87

Legendary West Virginia University linebacker Sam Huff died Saturday, Nov. 13, in Winchester, Virginia, following years of declining health. President Gordon Gee joined Director of Athletics Shane Lyons in paying homage to Huff.

Carey Inks Three on National Signing Day

West Virginia University women's basketball coach Mike Carey announced the addition of three student-athletes for the 2022-23 season, as Imarianah "Mari" Russell (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg High School), Avery "Ace" Strickland (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut High School) and Yonta Vaughn (District Heights, Md./Bishop McNamara High School) have signed National Letters of Intent.

Mahone named to prestigious National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Team, finalist for William Campbell Trophy

WVU's Sean Mahone was among the finalists named in the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame announced today and is a finalist for the 2021 William V. Campbell Trophy, college football's premier scholar-athlete award that annually recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.

WVU Sports Hall of Fame set for Saturday, Oct. 30

West Virginia University will hold its 31st annual Sports Hall of Fame induction on Saturday prior to the WVU-Iowa State football game. Induction ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m. in the Caperton Indoor Practice Facility. The public is invited to attend, and the event is free of charge. The 2021 class includes Keri Bland (cross country/track), Nicco Campriani (rifle), Noel Devine (football), Dale Farley (football), Mike Fox (football), Lajuanda Moody (gymnastics) and Olayinka Sanni (women's basketball).

Hossain and Parker named WVU Homecoming Royalty, Alumni honors bestowed

A weekend of Homecoming activities at West Virginia University culminated Saturday (Oct. 2) with the naming of Raimah Hossain and Kylie A. Parker as the 2021 Homecoming Royalty, marking the start of a new tradition at the University. The 2021 WVU Alumni Association Homecoming and Alumni Service Awards were also presented. The announcements were made during the half-time ceremony at Saturday’s Homecoming football game against Texas Tech.
