Virgin Hyperloop to build Hyperloop Certification Center in West Virginia

Virgin Hyperloop announced Thursday, Oct. 8, that it will locate a certification facility on nearly 800 acres of land spanning Tucker and Grant counties where it will leverage intellectual capital and resources from West Virginia University, Marshall University and from across the state.

WVU and Pitt team up for laser trial to treat glaucoma

Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world. A new study to be conducted by the West Virginia University and the University of Pittsburgh seeks to change that. The National Eye Institute recently awarded the universities $15.2 million to study how a treatment called selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) can be better used to treat glaucoma.

UPDATE: WVU Starbucks location to reopen after being temporarily closed for COVID-19 exposure

The Starbucks location at The Market @ UPlace will reopen on Sept. 18. The location was temporarily closed on Sept. 2, following a COVID-19 exposure at the storefront. The location underwent a deep cleaning after the exposure and has been deemed safe to reopen. Beginning Sept. 18, Starbucks will resume normal hours of operation (7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday).

While the utility of hydroxychloroquine in the fight against COVID-19 is still unclear, it still helps millions of people around the world manage autoimmune diseases. Mark McLaughlin, a researcher with the WVU School of Pharmacy, and his colleagues are trying out new versions of the drug’s molecular structure to see if they can improve its benefit to patients.
