The amount in external funding for research and other sponsored programs at West Virginia University for fiscal year 2021 tops the previous year’s record by $8 million.

A weekend of Homecoming activities at West Virginia University culminated Saturday (Oct. 2) with the naming of Raimah Hossain and Kylie A. Parker as the 2021 Homecoming Royalty, marking the start of a new tradition at the University. The 2021 WVU Alumni Association Homecoming and Alumni Service Awards were also presented. The announcements were made during the half-time ceremony at Saturday’s Homecoming football game against Texas Tech.

Alumni near and far will return to Morgantown this weekend (Oct. 1-2) to reminisce and embrace new traditions while honoring the old in celebration of West Virginia University’s 2021 Homecoming.

Undergraduate researchers at West Virginia University will spend the next year pursuing projects in enzymes and fungi— research that could ultimately help people with chronic diseases and develop new pharmaceuticals.

Recognizing the transformative potential of education abroad, three West Virginia University students have had their commitment to an international education recognized through the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship.

With a passion for human rights at home and abroad, Lily Wright, a junior Honors student double-majoring in English and French at the West Virginia University Eberly College of Arts & Sciences, has been recognized as a 2021 Humanity in Action Fellow.

West Virginia University student Teagan Kuzniar was first drawn to environmental issues after a guest lecture in her high school science class from a member of the Friends of Deckers Creek, a non-profit organization that works to clean-up and protect the Deckers Creek Watershed from environmental degradation.

Following a year of missed milestones, celebrations and traditions, West Virginia University’s first in-person commencement ceremony since December 2019 ushered in a renewed sense of optimism for the nearly 4,500 graduates who walked across the stage to receive their diplomas in four ceremonies this weekend (May 15-16).
