WVU Board begins process to extend President Gee’s contract

The West Virginia University Board of Governors began the process Friday of a state-mandated periodic evaluation of President Gordon Gee, and also set guidelines for a possible renewal of his contract beyond its June 30, 2021 expiration.

West Virginia University Reed College of Media alumnus Scott Widmeyer began funding a cross-university reporting project with his alma mater and the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs a year ago. Now he’s doubling down to extend the project with the hope of bursting long-standing “media bubbles.”

WVU to host women’s leadership panel as part of Distinguished Speaker Series

A panel of women who have demonstrated their abilities to lead and thrive in their respective areas of the business world will be the focus of the Distinguished Speaker Series at the West Virginia University John Chambers College of Business and Economics. The event, also sponsored by the WVU Women’s Business Center, is at Ming Hsieh Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 2.

Eads named WVU’s 66th Mountaineer Mascot

West Virginia University sophomore Timothy Eads can cross off one item from the bucket list he created his freshman year of high school—to serve as the Mountaineer Mascot. Eads heard his name announced as the next Mountaineer tonight (Feb. 25) at the men’s basketball game vs. Texas Christian University.

Four prominent leaders in the fields of public relations, library science, finance, and medicine will join an influential group of West Virginia University graduates as this year’s inductees into the Academy of Distinguished Alumni at the Erickson Alumni Center May 17 at 6 p.m.

Four finalists to compete Monday in Mountaineer Mascot Cheer-Off

The four finalists vying for the title to represent the student body as the 67th West Virginia University Mountaineer Mascot come from a variety of academic backgrounds and are involved in an array of extra-curricular activities. All West Virginia natives, they will compete wearing buckskins and carrying the rifle in a cheer-off held during the men’s basketball game vs. Kansas State at 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, in the WVU Coliseum.
