Two professors who have engaged students in their research have received the 2017 Faculty Award for Distinction in Undergraduate Research Mentoring at West Virginia University.

Three members of the West Virginia University class of 2017 will take on teaching and research opportunities starting this fall as recipients of the 2017 Fulbright Scholarship. The students will study abroad, serving as representatives of the University while supporting the Fulbright Scholars’ mission of promoting international good will.

Jennifer Oliva, associate professor of law and public health at West Virginia University, has been selected a Bellow Scholar by the Association of American Law Schools.

West Virginia University is committed to training a new generation of health care providers and scholars and recently received support from the National Institute on Aging to expand a pre-doctoral training program in stroke research. WVU’s Center for Basic and Translational Stroke Research received a grant award from the National Institute on Aging for total of nearly $1.4 million over five years.

The Mountain State Business Index increased slightly in April, posting its eighth improvement in the last nine months. Economists at West Virginia University said the MSBI has jumped 2.5 percent on an annualized basis over the last six months and is 1.5 percent above the level registered in April 2016.

Nianqiang “Nick” Wu, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at West Virginia University, has been named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation recently awarded three grants to West Virginia University through the WVU Foundation totaling $304,300. These grants will benefit various programs, initiatives, and individuals at WVU.
