One of the biggest factors hampering the growth of renewable energy is storage. Sun and wind are intermittent and dependent on geography, requiring energy storage and transportation. Batteries are a means of addressing the storage problem, but they have a low-energy density, and are relatively expensive and difficult to transport. A researcher at West Virginia University will be investigating one possible alternative that could potentially create a route to “green” hydrocarbons.

West Virginia has several different economies within the state with different characteristics and components, and West Virginia University will present comprehensive economic data on each of those regional economies this fall.

A collaboration between the West Virginia Conservation Agency, the Monongahela Conservation District, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and West Virginia University will result in improved safety for local residents, real savings for some Preston County water customers and research for faculty and students.
