West Virginia University Police issued a Campus Warning after being notified Friday (Sept. 26) of a reported motor vehicle theft from a parking lot on the Health Sciences area of campus.

University Police are searching for the stolen vehicle — a white 2012 GMC Sierra truck with a Pennsylvania registration tag ZXP4905. The work truck belongs to an external company.

The vehicle was last seen at 8:30 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 25) when it was parked in Lot 81 near the Pride Practice Facility. Investigators were told the vehicle was unlocked, one window was down and the keys were in the visor.

Anyone with information about the location of the vehicle is asked to contact UPD by calling 304-293-3136 or by sending a tip via the LiveSafe app.

WVU is committed to providing a safe campus for the protection of the University community. University officials remind students, faculty and staff to always secure their vehicles and consider other personal safety tips, advice and services located at safety.wvu.edu and police.wvu.edu.

The following safety tips are designed to help avoid potential crime.

• If you leave a vehicle or residence unattended for an extended period, consider asking someone to check in on it periodically.
• Always lock exterior doors, especially while you are away or not actively monitoring them. This includes your dorm, apartment, house and car doors.
• Develop a routine to inspect locks on your doors, windows and other applicable areas to ensure they are working effectively and locked, especially at night.
• Do not leave spare keys in places accessible to others.
• If you lose your key or ID, report it immediately.
• Anyone who believes they are in danger should immediately call 911.
• If you witness a potentially dangerous situation or a crime, call 911 or WVUPD.
• Download the WVU LiveSafe app.
• If you encounter an emergency situation on campus, utilize the blue light emergency call system, if available.
