Sean McWilliams, a theoretical astrophysicist at West Virginia University, will play a key role in the development of a first-of-its-kind planned space probe to detect and accurately measure gravitational waves — ripples in the fabric of space and time.
Three outstanding West Virginia University students — Christopher Smith, Easton Cahill and Rachel King — have been named winners of the 2024 Goldwater Scholarship, the nation’s premier undergraduate scholarship in mathematics, engineering and the natural sciences.
Erin Goodykoontz, teaching professor in the West Virginia University Eberly College School of Mathematical and Data Sciences, has been named the 2023 Professor of the Year by the Faculty Merit Foundation of West Virginia. The award is given annually to instructors working in the state’s public and private colleges to recognize their innovation and creativity in teaching.
