WVU plans bell-ringing ceremony to remember students

A bell-ringing ceremony in remembrance of three WVU students who died this year is scheduled for Friday (Sept. 29) at Oglebay Plaza on the WVU Downtown Campus. (WVU Photo)

West Virginia University will hold a bell-ringing ceremony, coordinated by the Office of Campus and Community Life and Alpha Phi Omega, a national service fraternity, on Friday (Sept. 29) in remembrance of Elizabeth O'Leary, Patrick Van Kirk and Brady Zelmore.

O'Leary, a freshman engineering major from Nitro, died on April 16; Van Kirk, a junior environmental, soil and water sciences major from Rockville, Maryland, died on March 11; and Zelmore, a senior political science major from Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, died on Aug. 18.

The service will begin at noon at Oglebay Plaza.

Those interested in attending are asked to gather near the bell of the USS West Virginia at least 15 minutes beforehand. Family, friends and members of the University community are welcome to attend.
