Nutritional supplements and diets not always protective, WVU research suggests

Do the nutritional supplements people take or the diets they adhere to actually protect them against cardiovascular problems and death? Maybe not, suggests a new umbrella review of meta-analyses and randomized controlled trials by Safi Khan, an assistant professor in the West Virginia University School of Medicine. His findings appear in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Additional 'floating' holiday available for WVU leave-eligible employees

Gov. Jim Justice today (July 3) issued executive orders declaring July 5, 2019 as an official holiday for State employees. The University has modified its holiday calendar to include an additional 7.5-hour “floating” holiday (pro-rated by FTE) for leave-eligible employees, effective July 5, 2019. WVU will operate on a normal schedule, including classes, Friday, July 5.

West Virginia University researcher Nicholas Castle is part of a team investigating how nursing homes can best meet obese residents’ healthcare needs. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality—a division of the Department of Health and Human Services—has awarded them nearly $2 million for the project.

WVU chemist is a molecular architect

West Virginia University chemist Kung Wang is an architect—not the kind who designs houses – one who designs molecules. Wang is constructing a synthetic pathway to creating new molecular templates for growing carbon nanotubes, honeycomb-shaped tubes that are the foundation for applications in nanotechnology and for conducting electricity.
