It might only be the beginning of May, but college football is already on the minds of many. The West Virginia University Mountaineers and University of Tennessee Volunteers are set to open their seasons at the Belk College Kickoff on September 1 at Bank of America Stadium.

WVU researchers to develop economic plan for Potomac Highlands region

A group of counties in eastern West Virginia has turned to West Virginia University to develop a strategic action plan for its future. WVU’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research will lead a team of expert organizations who will prepare the plan in an effort to promote economic development in West Virginia’s Potomac Highlands region. The plan will encompass Pendleton, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy and Mineral counties, which compose the Region 8 Planning and Development Council.

Donation from WVU alumni Dan and Betsy Brown to benefit Formula SAE team

The latest gift from longtime West Virginia University supporters Dan and Betsy Brown will help fund activities related to the WVU Formula SAE racing team in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. The significant donation will be used by the WVU Formula SAE team in preparation for 2019 competition.

New cohort of Foundation Scholars chosen

The first members of the West Virginia University Class of 2022 will be honored just two days after the Class of 2018 leaves campus. The WVU Foundation Scholars, the highest academic scholarship the University awards, will be celebrated May 15 during a luncheon hosted by President Gordon Gee at Blaney House.

Brown hired as strength coach for men’s basketball

Shaun Brown has been named the strength and conditioning coach for WVU men's basketball and brings 30 years of experience to Mountaineer basketball. Brown comes to West Virginia from Minnesota, where he served as the strength and conditioning coach for the Minnesota men's basketball team for the past five years.

Civil engineering professor named inaugural Wadsworth Faculty Fellow at WVU

Dimitra Pyrialakou, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering, has been named the inaugural Maurice Wadsworth Faculty Fellow in the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. Pyrialakou has initiated research on a project that assesses the efficiency and effectiveness of West Virginia’s rural transit systems through evaluations of peer transit agencies in the state in hopes of identifying opportunities for improvement.
