Teaching, advising, research awards announced in WVU’s Statler College

Gene Cilento, Glen H. Hiner Dean of the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University, announced the winners of the College's outstanding teaching, advising and researcher awards for 2017-2018. The awards were handed out at the College's annual Honors Ceremony, which took place on April 6.

WVU to host documentary and panel discussion: “Talking Black in America”

Hardesty, Jr. Festival of Ideas series will address African American English, the most controversial and misunderstood variety of speech in the United States, during a documentary and panel discussion titled “Talking Black in America” April 10 at 7 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.

WVU geographer helps prepare for internal climate migration through new World Bank report

Internal climate migrants are rapidly becoming the human face of climate change, according to a new report from World Bank. Brent McCusker, a professor of geography at West Virginia University, has contributed to a study of migration projections in the developing world, including Ethiopia, Mexico and Bangladesh, to help inform government leaders of what to expect from future migration patterns as a result of climate change.

2018 Gold-Blue Spring Game cancelled due to predicted inclement weather

Due to impending wintry weather being forecast for the Morgantown area on Saturday, April 7, the 2018 Gold-Blue Spring Football Game has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Tickets sold to fans in advance of the spring game will be automatically refunded by the Mountaineer Ticket Office if paid by credit card or check.

New Mountaineer to begin term after April 6 ‘Passing of the Rifle” ceremony

Trevor Kiess will officially begin his reign as the 2018-19 West Virginia University Mountaineer Mascot on Friday (April 6), when current Mountaineer Troy Clemons passes the rifle on to him in a formal ceremony. The ceremony, open to the public, will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the Barnette Room of the Erickson Alumni Center.

Carl Schmidt, M.D., to join WVU Cancer Institute

WVU Medicine announced Tuesday (April 3) that Carl Schmidt, M.D., a nationally recognized surgical oncologist specializing in cancers of the liver, pancreas, and stomach will join the WVU Cancer Institute in July.
