A West Virginia University-hosted event will provide unprecedented access to renowned sport sciences professionals. The first workshop of its kind in West Virginia will feature speakers typically found on national platforms and allow area coaches an opportunity to benefit from the locally-based clinic.

“This is an incredible opportunity for coaches and strength coaches in the state and surrounding area. We will truly have some of the world leaders in the field of strength and conditioning and sport science attending and presenting the state clinic. Additionally, it is a tremendous chance for students to learn from icons in the field,” Guy Hornsby, West Virginia University College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences  athletic coaching education teaching assistant professor, explained.

Industry professionals include Mike Stone, former head of physiology at the United States Olympic Committee and current director of exercise and sport science at East Tennessee State University Meg Stone, two-time Olympian and director, Center of Excellence for Sport Science and Coach Education at ETSU, and Josh Nelson, director of Applied Performance at Baylor University. Nelson (2017) earned his doctorate degree from WVU in coaching and teaching studies.

Additional speakers include Dan Wathen, former NSCA president and a recipient of the NSCA Lifetime Achievement Award and Rick Howard, long-term athlete development and resistance training expert.

Hornsby, who serves as the NSCA WV state director and state clinic director, will join CPASS faculty Kristen Dieffenbach, athletic coaching education associate professor, and Sean Bulger, professor, physical education teacher education, in roundtable discussions at the workshop on February 3, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the WVU Mountainlair Gold and Blue rooms. The Center for Applied Coaching and Sport Science at CPASS will host the event.

Topics will cover sport and coaching science, resistance training, strength and conditioning and long-term athlete development.

Deadline for early registration is Jan. 23. For more details or to register visit NSCA Events.
