Recently it was reported that Dr. Gee fell at the Pittsburgh airport while returning from holiday break. During the testing that followed, it was discovered he had minimal scarring around his heart that could have caused a momentary tachycardia event (when the heart rate exceeds the normal resting rate).
As a precaution, Dr. Gee underwent a procedure on Friday, Jan. 5, to implant an internal defibrillator. His team of physicians report that everything went smoothly and that Dr. Gee is recovering well.
“I am extremely grateful for the care my physicians and the entire team of health-care professionals at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital have provided to me,” said Gee. “Their support has made it possible to be on the mend quickly. I also appreciate the outpouring of good will from our West Virginia University family. It has reminded me why this University – and indeed this state – is so very special.”
Dr. Gee is expected to recuperate the remainder of this week and return to a light schedule next week.
“The start of a new semester is always an important time,” added Gee. “I look forward to being back on campus and reconnecting with our students, faculty and staff.”
