WVU professor plays key role in telescope program that will map the history of the Universe

Since the early 1900s scientists have known that the Universe is expanding but recent studies have shown that the rate of expansion is accelerating. The reason for this is currently unknown; however, Kevin Bandura, an assistant professor in the Lane Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering at West Virginia University, has been working on the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment, or CHIME, for the past several years to solve the mystery.

WVU engineering alumnus flies into the eye of Hurricane Irma

West Virginia University alumnus Nick Underwood has been flying into the eye of Hurricane Irma, the most powerful Atlantic Ocean hurricane in recorded history, to collect critical data about the storm and where it’s headed. Underwood, a native of Beaver, graduated from WVU in 2014 with a degree in aerospace engineering. He has spent the last year working with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s Aircraft Operations Center.

WVU Reed College of Media to host panel discussion on covering the Trump Administration

Every administration has had its run-ins with the press, but the Trump Administration’s relationship with the media has been particularly rocky. West Virginia University’s Reed College of Media will take an in-depth look at that relationship as it hosts the panel discussion Journalism on the Frontlines: Covering the Trump Administration Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.

Mountain State Business Index: West Virginia economy to see solid growth through end of 2017

The Mountain State Business Index jumped 0.3 percent in August, marking the index’s 11th month-to-month gain over the last 13 months. Economists at West Virginia University said the MSBI has risen 1.3 percent on an annualized basis over the last six months and posted a 2.0 percent gain over its August 2016 reading, returning to its highest level since the second quarter of 2015.

WVU's IMC graduate program awards first scholarships from new fund

Two West Virginia University Reed College of Media online graduate students have been awarded scholarships from the College's newly-established General IMC Scholarship Fund. The competitive scholarship, established in 2017 by College of Media alumni and employees Catherine and Chad Mezera, is for students enrolled in the College’s Integrated Marketing Communications and Data Marketing Communications graduate programs.
