The West Virginia University Foundation is recognizing those alumni and friends of WVU who have created endowed scholarships, fellowships and student awards in calendar year 2016.

Seventy donors are being honored by having bricks engraved with their name placed in the Ernest L. Hogan Scholars Walk, the pathway located at the downtown campus library.

“We salute these donors who have made an investment in our students,” said B.J. Davisson, WVU Foundation senior vice president for development and chief development officer. “Each year, the number of students who rely on private assistance, such as scholarships and fellowships, grows. Student support is and will continue to be our highest fundraising priority.”

The late Ernest L. Hogan began his career in Beckley, with the Peoples Life Insurance Company. After 43 years of climbing the corporate ladder, Hogan retired as president, chairman and CEO of Peoples.

At WVU, Hogan is known for creating the Ernest L. and Mildred S. Hogan Scholarship for high school graduates in West Virginia, as well as the establishment of an endowed chair of insurance and risk management at the College of Business and Economics

Hogan was recognized in 2002 when the pathway in front of the downtown library was named the Ernest L. Hogan Scholars Walk to acknowledge students, faculty and donors for their commitment to the University.

Established in 1954, the WVU Foundation is a private non-profit corporation that generates, receives and administers private gifts for the benefit of West Virginia University. A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University is the Foundation’s current fundraising effort on behalf of the University that runs through December.
