West Virginia University Police Chief Bob Roberts returned to the department Monday (March 13) after an extended medical leave. 

“I am very appreciative of the recent care I received at Ruby Memorial Hospital and the expertise of WVU Medicine’s cardiac team,” said Roberts, who has served as director and chief of University Police since 1990. He has been with the department for 32 years. 

Roberts praised the staff at University Police during his absence. “Their dedicated service gave me the confidence to focus on my recovery,” he added. 

Capt. William P. “W.P.” Chedester II resumes his role as one of four captains in the 81-member department after serving as interim chief since November 15, 2016.
