The West Virginia University football team is headed to the Russell Athletic Bowl to take on the Miami Hurricanes, Dec. 28, at Camping World Stadium. Those making the trip to Orlando are encouraged to join fellow Mountaineers at fan events planned Dec. 27-28.
Tuesday, Dec. 27
Alumni, friends and fans are
invited to participate in the Russell Athletic Bowl Big 12 Pep Rally at
I-Drive 360, Home of the Orlando Eye (8445 International Dr., Orlando),
at 4 p.m. The rally will include appearances by the Pride of West
Virginia, Mountaineer and WVU Cheerleaders. WVU President E. Gordon Gee
is also expected to appear. Fans wearing gold and blue can take
advantage of a variety of discounts at I-Drive 360, as well as collect
their free Mountaineer giveaway (while supplies last). Admission is
free.
Following the pep rally, fans are invited to join the WVU Alumni Association, WVU Foundation, Mountaineer Athletic Club, WVU Varsity Club and Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG for a Mountaineer Meet and Greet at 6 p.m. at Miller’s Ale House (8963 International Dr., Orlando). Get together with fellow Mountaineers at Orlando’s gold and blue headquarters for music, bowl games on flat screen televisions, giveaways (while supplies last), great food and drink specials. The event will feature a live broadcast of the WVU IMG Bowl Special Radio Show hosted by Mountaineer play-by-play announcer Tony Caridi. Admission is free.
Wednesday, Dec. 28
Game day kicks off at 11 a.m. with the Russell Athletic Bowl Parade of Bands (Winter Park Ave., Winter Park). The Pride of West Virginia Mountaineer Marching Band
will perform in the parade on picturesque Park Ave. Get there early to
reserve your spot among sidewalk cafes and brick lined streets. General
admission to this event is free.
Following the parade, fans are invited to head to the Russell Athletic Bowl Fan Fest at Tinker Field at Camping World Stadium (1 Citrus Bowl Pl., Orlando) starting at 1:30 p.m. Be a part of the official bowl pre-game tailgate party featuring live entertainment, face painters and interactive displays. A wide selection of food and beverage options will be available for purchase from local vendors. Admission is free.
In addition to Fan Fest, individuals looking for a full service tailgate option can purchase tickets to the Buffalo Wild Wings Tablegate Hospitality Tent at Tinker Field. Participants will enjoy unlimited food and beverages, music, appearances by the Pride of West Virginia, Mountaineer, WVU Cheerleaders, flat screen televisions and lounge seating in a climate-controlled VIP area. Tickets to the Tablegate Tent are $85 and can be purchased here. The tent opens at 2:30 p.m.
