Jack S. Monell, professor of justice studies at Winston-Salem State University, will be the keynote speaker. Monell is a distinguished academic and practitioner with more than 31 years of experience in social work, criminal justice, sociology and human services.

Monell and Javier McCoy, interim director of the WVU Center for Black Culture, will be available to talk with members of the media at 9:15 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 17) near the event entrance. Media availability after that time will be limited.
During the Unity Breakfast, the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship and Achievement Award will be presented, recognizing students and individuals in West Virginia for their commitment to human rights, civil rights and social justice.
