WVU Davis College to cut ribbon on new textiles lab

WHAT: Ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Amy A. Bircher Textiles Laboratory, a creative space for fashion, dress and merchandising students in the West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design

WHEN: Friday, April 16, 4 p.m.

WHERE: 110 Agricultural Sciences Annex, Evansdale Campus

WHO: Leaders of the WVU Davis College and alumna Amy A. Bircher 

Planned speakers include:

  • Darrell Donahue, Dean and Director, Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design
  • Amy A. Bircher, CEO of MMI Textiles, Inc.
  • Elizabeth Shorrock, Visiting Assistant Professor, Fashion, Dress and Merchandising

NOTES: After brief remarks, members of the media will have opportunities to conduct interviews and obtain b-roll and photos of the new laboratory. This new space was made possible by a $200,000 gift from Amy A. Bircher, a 1993 graduate of the Davis College with a degree in textiles, clothing and fashion merchandising and leader in the textile industry. A passionate and engaged textile industry leader, Bircher created this laboratory to provide fashion, dress and merchandising students with essential hands-on experience dyeing, printmaking, crocking, abrasion testing, tensile strength testing, yarn twisting, colorfastness.
