WVU to host first Global Health Summit in Morgantown

WHAT: Global Health Summit with a focus on driving justice and equity through healthcare

WHEN: Friday (Oct. 11) 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Keynote speaker at noon 

WHERE: WVU Health Sciences Center Fukushima Auditorium, 64 Medical Center Drive, Morgantown

NOTES: WVU is a center of globally-focused health research, service and education and recognizes that many health outcomes in the state mirror those of low resource settings globally. Broad global engagement is necessary to develop of our economy, and our emphasis on global health is not just timely it is imperative to understanding potential solutions to West Virginia problems. 

The lineup of panelists includes leades in global health policy, social justice, finance and healthcare: 

  • 8:45 a.m. – Plenary address by Dr. Kathryn Kell, president, FDI World Dental Federation
  • Noon – Featured keynote speaker is Lawrence O. Gostin, professor and founding O’Neill Chair in Global Health Law at Georgetown University. Gostin will examine the role of poverty as a social determinant of health and relating the importance of trust, compassion and accountability to transform cultures of endemic poverty both within and outside of Appalachia.
