WVU president nears end of ‘Welcome Home Tour’ with planned stops in 6 southern West Virginia counties

WHAT: West Virginia University President Michael T. Benson will visit Cabell, Fayette, Mason, Putnam, Wayne and Wyoming counties as he closes in on the conclusion of his “Welcome Home Tour” of the Mountain State.

          • Putnam County Chamber of Commerce breakfast

            8:30-10 a.m.

          • Point Pleasant history and mystery tour
             Point Pleasant Riverfront Park
             28 Main St., Point Pleasant
             2:30-5 p.m.

          • Cabell County alumni and community reception
             The Peddler
             835 3rd Ave., Huntington
             6-7:30 p.m.
             NOTE: President Benson will be available to speak with media at 5:45 p.m.

Thursday, May 7
          • Visit to Heritage Farm
             3300 Harvey Road, Huntington
             10 a.m.

          • Cabell County WVU Extension office ribbon-cutting ceremony
             3 Chateau Grove Lane, Barboursville
             1:30-2:30 p.m.

Friday, May 8
          • Visit to Wyoming County Courthouse
             24 Cedar Ave., Pineville
             11 a.m. to noon

          • Visit to Fayette County Courthouse and Downtown Fayetteville
             100 North Court St., Fayetteville
             2-3:15 p.m.

NOTES: After these scheduled tour stops, President Benson will have officially visited 54 of West Virginia’s 55 counties since becoming the University’s 27th president last July.

Information about how he will end his “Welcome Home Tour” in Monongalia County will be released once details are finalized.
