WHAT: “Patriotism, Politics and the Playing Field,” a panel discussion presented as part of the West Virginia University David C. Hardesty Jr. Festival of Ideas, will feature national sports journalists, commentators and athletes discussing the intersection of sports, race and media during a time of intense political division and partisanship. A variety of timely issues will be addressed, including the recent decision by the NFL to ban players from kneeling during the national anthem.

· Nancy Armour, columnist for USA TODAY Sports
· Kevin Blackistone, national sports columnist at The Washington Post, panelist on ESPN’s “Around the Horn” and contributor to National Public Radio
· Kimberley A. Martin, senior NFL reporter for Yahoo Sports
· Etan Thomas, former NBA player; Author; “We Matter: Athletes and Activism”
· Keith Reed, sports business analyst, CNN and elsewhere; former ESPN senior editor

will serve as the moderator.
