WVU, state leaders to celebrate Computer Science Education Week with 400 students at Mylan Park Elementary School

WHAT: The West Virginia University Center for Excellence in STEM Education will celebrate Computer Science Education Week with 400 students at Mylan Park Elementary School.

WHO: WVU President Gordon Gee, West Virginia's Department of Education and the Arts Secretary Gayle Manchin, and Center Director Gay Stewart will deliver brief remarks to support the need to broaden participation in the field of computer science. Video greetings by U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito, along with State Superintendent of Schools Steven Paine, will also be presented to the students. 

WHEN: 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Friday (Dec. 8)

WHERE: Mylan Park Elementary School, 901 Mylan Park Ln, Morgantown

Following brief remarks, students will participate in an Hour of Code, which is a global, one-hour introduction to computer science designed to demystify “code” and show how easy it is for students of all ages to learn the basics of coding.
