WHY: Approximately 30 first-generation WVU students will be attending a kickoff event at Dorsey’s Knob for the newly created FirstGen Living Learning Community

What to Know:

  • The students in the FirstGen LLC will live near one another in Dadisman Hall on the downtown campus of West Virginia University.
  • A small group of staff from the Student Success Center, TRiO, and Housing & Residence Life came together with the goal of wanting to provide first generation students a common experience where they can find support and resources from their fellow classmates, faculty, and staff.
  • Besides living near one another, students will take HIST 153, ENGL 101 and WVUE 191 together.
  • With most LLCs, the lead time in creating them is about 12 – 18 months. With this LLC, WVU was able to accomplish this in 6 months. This speaks to the importance that WVU places on providing the best support to our students.
