West Virginia University alumni and friends are being encouraged to make a gift to the University on Wednesday, Nov. 13, as part of the third annual WVU Day of Giving.

Looking toward the future of facility, WVU Extension Service is planning for the next century of camping and education to meet the evolving needs and interests of youths and other visitors in West Virginia and beyond.

WVU Foundation’s annual giving program sets another new record

For the fourth straight year, the West Virginia University Foundation’s annual giving program received a record number of donations. Between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018, donors gave $22.3 million to the University Fund surpassing the previous record high of $21.6 million in FY ’17.

‘Loyal, generous bunch’ gives more than $160 million to WVU

The WVU Foundation says 23,161 donors, including 12,471 alumni, made 46,056 gifts between July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018 totaling $161,029,056. Only in FY’12 did the Foundation raise more - $173.9 million, a year that included two exceptionally large philanthropic gifts. FY’18 was buoyed by three record months of giving in July ($12.9 million), August ($12 million), and December ($49.5 million).

Matching, participation gift challenges part of Wednesday’s inaugural WVU Day of Giving

Donors to West Virginia University’s inaugural Day of Giving on Wednesday (Nov. 8) could see their investment grow immediately thanks to other generous University supporters. Several alumni and friends have issued challenge and participation matches for the 24-hour online fundraising effort designed to raise dollars for the University’s greatest priorities and opportunities, as well as scholarships and unrestricted funds at both the University and unit specific level.

Paying it forward: Social work scholarship encourages students to give back

A dozen WVU social work students have received the Social Work Pay It Forward scholarship, which has been in place for a decade. This scholarship is made possible by 120 donors that who have given 280 gifts totaling $110,000. The idea behind the scholarship is to encourage recipients of the scholarship to not pay back the money given, but to instead pay it forward to support students with financial need.

WVU to hold inaugural Day of Giving Nov. 8

One day. The words suggest a moment and a future. Both are being emphasized on Nov. 8 as West Virginia University is reaching out to students, alumni and friends, encouraging them to make a gift – especially ones that go to the general, unrestricted needs of the University and its schools and colleges. The WVU Foundation is organizing the University’s inaugural Day of Giving, 24-hour online fundraising effort, as a simple way for University supporters to contribute to the Foundation’s “State of Minds” Campaign.
