West Virginia University Vice President for Research Fred King shared the following message with the University community today (Feb. 17).

West Virginia University was reaffirmed as an R1 university, the highest possible research ranking, in the 2025 rankings by the American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching released Thursday (Feb. 13). WVU is the only R1 institution in West Virginia and one of 187 colleges and universities nationwide to earn the latest prestigious classification.

West Virginia University has released its Fall 2024 Dean’s and President’s lists, as well as the full list of graduates for the fall.

The program is open to resident undergraduate students across the West Virginia University System — including at WVU Morgantown, WVU Institute of Technology and WVU Potomac State College — with a family adjusted gross income of $65,000 or less who annually complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Armed with resilience and perseverance, more than 1,000 August and December West Virginia University graduates poised for success participated in two Commencement ceremonies Saturday (Dec. 21) at the Coliseum.

Alongside hundreds of graduates, West Virginia University will present two outstanding alumni and an educator with Presidential Honorary Degrees while also recognizing two leading faculty members during Commencement ceremonies, Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Coliseum.

Construction is set to start in the new year on an extensive West Virginia University School of Dentistry expansion and renovation project being supported, in part, by a $12.6 million award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr. Sally Hodder, director of the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute, associate vice president for clinical and translational science at WVU, and Chancellor’s Preeminent Scholar Chair, was elected to the National Academy of Medicine for her accomplishments as an infectious diseases physician and researcher. She is the first person from WVU to be chosen for the National Academy of Medicine.

As cooler temperatures arrive and the landscape changes across the region, West Virginia University health experts and care providers encourage residents to practice prevention to promote health and safety in communities statewide in preparation for respiratory illness season.

Since 1994, Dr. Peter Ngan has guided students at the West Virginia University School of Dentistry through a rigorous residency program to help them build successful specialty careers in orthodontics. After 30 years, alumni are sharing their gratitude for his dedication with gifts totaling more than $900,000 to name the orthodontic clinic in his honor.
