More and more West Virginians, financially burdened by the COVID-19 pandemic, are turning to food banks to put meals on their tables – and one team of West Virginia University physicians is pledging to provide more fresh and frozen food for those in need.
After an announcement Monday (Sept. 7) that most undergraduate, in-person classes on the Morgantown campus will move online for two weeks, West Virginia University President Gordon Gee detailed plans for the transition in a letter to the University community.
In-person classes will be canceled on West Virginia University’s Morgantown campus Tuesday, Sept. 8. Online classes will continue as usual, as will University operations. Staff and faculty should report to work as usual. Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 9, all undergraduate courses in Morgantown, with the exception of those Health Sciences courses with students already engaged in clinical rotation, will move online through Friday, Sept. 25. Graduate and professional courses will continue to be offered in person.
Twenty-nine West Virginia University students are being placed on immediate interim suspension amid ongoing COVID-19-related investigations. Additional sanctions are pending for at least 30 others. The latest actions follow more reports to the University and social media posts showing large parties Friday and Saturday nights (Sept. 4-5) at fraternities not recognized by WVU.
The West Virginia University Board of Governors held a special meeting Friday (Sept. 4).
Beginning today (Sept. 4), the dashboard will include data about self-reported positive test results from outside WVU’s testing system, as well as isolation and quarantine information (on-campus, off-campus, Greek housing and those who have gone home) for the Morgantown campus.
West Virginia University has scheduled hearings that could result in suspension or expulsion for three students who have a history of repeated violations as part of ongoing investigations related to COVID-19 and violations of the Student Code of Conduct.

The Starbucks location at The Market @ UPlace will reopen on Sept. 18. The location was temporarily closed on Sept. 2, following a COVID-19 exposure at the storefront. The location underwent a deep cleaning after the exposure and has been deemed safe to reopen. Beginning Sept. 18, Starbucks will resume normal hours of operation (7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday).
The Big 12 Conference has announced that WVU's Saturday, Sept. 12, football game against Eastern Kentucky at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown, West Virginia, will be played at noon, ET and be televised on FS1.
