As part of the West Virginia University Evansdale Redevelopment campus master plan, Towers and Evansdale Crossing will be the only designated Mountain Line bus stops providing service to the campus beginning today (Jan. 9), the first day of the 2017 spring semester.

“As you are aware, the landscape of Evansdale Campus has changed considerably over the last few years,” said Clement Solomon, Director of Transportation and Parking. “The primary focus of this bus stop relocation is to make Evansdale campus pedestrian-friendly and walkable. Mountain Line remains an integral part of our overall transportation strategy; no other change in service is anticipated.”

Evansdale Crossing, now a hub for the Evansdale Campus, incorporates many intermodal concepts connecting the upper and lower campus by providing a direct route to the engineering PRT station and all bus/shuttle services in the area.

“Pedestrian traffic has considerably increased along Evansdale Drive with multiple pedestrian-vehicular conflict points along the entire section of this roadway,” Solomon noted. “To the extent possible, limiting vehicular traffic to the outer periphery of the campus makes it safer for pedestrians.”

Additional short-term parking affords the option to use these lots to ride the PRT, bus or shuttles.

“We want to ensure that transportation is convenient for our students and most importantly that all students are safe while traveling across campus,” said Julie Merow, president of the Student Government Association. “We hope that more convenient options for Evansdale students will be explored as we move into next semester.”

Future intermodal expansion opportunities will continue to be explored as we look ahead to increased growth on campus.
