West Virginia University’s men’s soccer team and Alumni Association are able to continue their work in promoting academic excellence and providing the best sources of engagement at WVU thanks to a recent gift from dedicated Mountaineer alumni.

Dan and Alex Duenkel recently established a new scholarship for the men’s soccer team to provide funding for student athletes that demonstrate acceptable academic promise and have a good record of citizenship.

WVU Men’s Soccer head coach, Marlon LeBlanc said the scholarship only proves the graciousness of our Mountaineer family.

“We cannot thank the Duenkel family enough for their commitment and generosity to WVU men’s soccer,” LeBlanc said. “Our program greatly appreciates the establishment of this scholarship, and future recipients will take great pride in the incredible honor.”

In addition, the WVU Alumni Association will use this gift to establish an alumni technology endowment. With this fund, the association will be able to advance its mission of supporting global engagement of students and alumni through technology enhancements, including data analytics, technology applications, and mentoring software.

WVU Alumni Association President and CEO, Sean Frisbee said the gift will strengthen the relationship of the association with our graduates.

“With this generous gift, we will be able to provide top-notch engagement with our alumni and students through expansion of technology benefits like our upcoming smartphone app and mentoring program, as well as elevate our organization to the next level,” Frisbee said. “We are so grateful for the Duenkels’ kindness.”

Dan Duenkel currently serves as Chief Technology Officer at Knight Point Systems, a technology and consulting firm in Reston, Virginia.

This gift was made in conjunction with A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University. Conducted by the WVU Foundation, the fundraising effort will run through December 2017.
