A West Virginia University tradition continues with Braden Adkins formally accepting the role of the Mountaineer mascot during a symbolic ceremony Friday (April 26) at the Mountainlair, marking the end of Mikel Hager’s time in the position.
Supporters of West Virginia University donated a record $30.4 million Wednesday (March 20) during the University’s seventh Day of Giving. More than 8,500 gifts were made during the 24-hour online fundraising event held across the University system, also a new record. The $30.4 million figure tops 2023’s WVU Day of Giving record of $18.1 million raised from more than 8,200 gifts.
Fulfilling his passion to serve West Virginia University and his home state, Braden Adkins will don the buckskins and carry the rifle as the next Mountaineer mascot.
Four West Virginia natives vying to be the 70th West Virginia University Mountaineer mascot will wear buckskins and carry rifles as they compete in a cheer-off during the men’s basketball game versus the University of Central Florida at 7 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 20) in the WVU Coliseum.
West Virginia University and WVU Extension will host WVU Day at the Legislature from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the West Virginia Capitol Building in Charleston. Visitors of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend this free event which will feature information and activities from organizations across the University.
The West Virginia University Alumni Association, Mountaineer Athletic Club, WVU Foundation and WVU Athletics are partnering to host events for fans attending the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina.
