Gabriele Smith
Gabriele Smith, a native of Forestville, New York, is graduating with dual degrees in philosophy and multidisciplinary studies, with her multidisciplinary degree composed of minors in leadership studies, religious studies and aerospace studies.
A student in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences and an Air Force ROTC cadet, Smith participated in study abroad experiences and community service projects, developing a servant-based leadership style that is disciplined and compassionate. She also served as a resident assistant for Boreman Hall and a student worker at Einstein Bros. Bagels.
As a 2025 Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholar, she spent last summer studying at Mahidol University International College in Bangkok, Thailand. During her time abroad, she learned Thai while completing interdisciplinary coursework focused on culture, religion and global perspectives.
To gain firsthand experience in mission-based work, she completed a nonprofit externship at Wesley United Methodist Church for her multidisciplinary studies capstone project. There, she analyzed community engagement strategies by interviewing clergy and observing outreach through the lens of leadership and religious studies.
She cites her most fulfilling accomplishment as serving as the Cadet Deputy Wing Commander for Detachment 915 in Fall 2025. Working closely with her leadership team, she helped guide the cadet wing through a pivotal semester, integrating a new class of AS100 cadets while fostering a culture of resilience, accountability and personal growth. For Smith, the fulfillment of the role stemmed less from the title and more from how the experience reflected her consistent commitment to serving others throughout her college career — a dedication that has strengthened her resolve to serve as an officer in the U.S. Air Force.
In recognition of her exceptional leadership and commitment to public service, she was named a Milan Puskar Leadership Scholar and selected as a member of the Arnold Air Society, where she served as the Squadron Commander her senior year. Smith also received the Commander’s Coin of Excellence, an honor given for performance that significantly exceeds expectations in the AFROTC.
Following graduation, Smith will commission into the U.S. Air Force as a logistics readiness officer.
