Media Kit: Health Sciences and Technology Academy celebrates 25 years of mentorship and empowerment

The West Virginia Health Science and Technology Academy is one avenue that has proven highly effective over its 25 years of operation. The mentorship program reaches out to high school students from backgrounds underrepresented in college—across the state—and encourages them to pursue STEM and health science degrees.

HSTA Media Kit 32307 S REB 0175 XX In 2016, Renée Nicholson taught HSTA participants about narrative medicine. What the participants wrote during workshops with Nicholson informed the advance directives that palliative care physicians with the West Virginia University Cancer Institute composed for their patients. Nicholson is the interim director of West Virginia University’s multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary studies programs.
